What is an Ex Libris?

An ex libris is the personal mark of ownership of a book owner. It combines an individual graphic with personalised text and identifies books in a stylish way as part of a private or institutional library.

The artwork reflects the owner's personality and can symbolise hobbies, profession, interests, passions, sport, history, heritage, or personal life goals. It is complemented by an individual lettering such as "Ex Libris", "This book belongs to", "From the library of", "Bibliotheca", or another wording of your choice, along with the name and/or motto of the book owner, an institution, library, or company.

At EXLIBRIS-INSEL, clients can choose their personal ex libris from an extensive range of motifs, or have a completely individual design created to their own specifications.

From the chosen ex libris — depending on preference — high-quality products are created, such as a precision stamp, a limited print on label or cotton paper, or an embossing die. With this, an elegant blind emboss can be pressed into the paper using an embossing plier, resembling a watermark and marking books in a particularly refined way.
